♪ When I got the position at Moraine Valley, I knew that it was going to be a lot of work. And, I, by that time, I had several baseball experiences that taught me what a baseball job was going to be like. And basically it’s coaching, putting a program together, planning, field work, which most people aren’t ready for, a lot of dreaming, and your visions for the program, for your teaching, for your facility. And Moraine was just getting started in the athletic world. And so there was a lot of dreaming, and I really enjoyed that part of it. I had lots of visions and didn’t accomplish that many, but there’s a few that I’m kind of proud of. We had a lot of fun, and we, and learned some baseball. And I remember a lot of those teams from the early, early, days, as well as I do the teams that we were putting on the field 18 years later, producing kids that went on and played profess, professional baseball and pitched in the big leagues and pitched against the White Sox. Doesn’t, doesn’t get any better than that. I miss having baseball at my fingertips, which Moraine was for 18 years. If I was coaching overseas I was glad to get back to my roots, if you will, back to the kids at Moraine, my team, my team, my, my group of guys, and what we were going to put together. I, I missed having baseball whenever I wanted it. At the [finger snap] drop of a hat. From a sod field to an Athletics Hall of Fame, [ laughter ] that’s what Moraine has been in my lifetime. Looking at Moraine as, as a a school, trying to grab some tradition, and I, I look at it as a, as a ex-coach from there and, and someone from the neighborhood, that, uh, athletics is moving in this direction. And it’s not just winning, losing and, and players, it’s, it’s about making a tradition. ♪ ♪
